Lt Gen Devendra Sharma Becomes New Commander of Army Training Command in Shimla

Shimla (Himachal Pradesh) [India], July 1: Lt Gen Devendra Sharma has taken over as the new commander of the Army Training Command (ARTRAC) in Shimla. Sharma is an alumnus of Mayo College, Ajmer, National Defence Academy, and Indian Military Academy. He was commissioned into ‘THE SCINDE HORSE’ on December 19, 1987, and has had a distinguished career spanning almost four decades.

Sharma has held important command positions in various sensitive operational sectors, counter-terrorism environments, and high-altitude terrains. He has commanded ‘THE SCINDE HORSE’, an Armoured Brigade, an Infantry Division, and a Corps on the Western Front. Before taking over as GOC-in-C, ARTRAC, he was the Chief of Staff at HQ Western Command.

His staff experiences include challenging assignments in both operational and administrative domains. He has been an instructor at the National Defence Academy, a Staff Officer in the Indian Military Training Team in Bhutan, and Chief Military Personnel Officer at the United Nations Mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Sharma has attended various prestigious courses, including the Defence Services Staff College, Higher Defence Management Course, and Advance Professional Programme in Public Administration. For his exemplary leadership and devotion to duty, he was awarded the Ati Vishist Seva Medal on January 26, 2022. He has also received the Sena Medal for gallantry, the Central Army Commander’s Commendation Card, and the UN Force Commander’s Appreciation.

Upon assuming command, Lt Gen Sharma extended his greetings to all ranks of ARTRAC, Veer Naris, Veterans, Defence civilian employees, and their families.
