Louvre Abu Dhabi: A Cultural Icon with 5 Million Visitors
The Louvre Abu Dhabi, located in the UAE, has become a major cultural landmark since its opening in 2017. Designed by the famous French architect Jean Nouvel, the museum covers 24,000 square meters and is the first global museum of its kind in the Arab world.
Manuel Rabate, the Director of Louvre Abu Dhabi, shared that the museum has attracted five million visitors, with 28% being UAE nationals and residents, and 72% international tourists from countries like Russia, China, India, France, the United States, the United Kingdom, Italy, Germany, and the Philippines.
The museum showcases around 6,000 artworks by over 313 artists from various cultures, ranging from prehistoric pieces to modern creations. These artworks are displayed together to highlight significant cultural connections and promote intellectual exchange.
Rabate also mentioned the museum’s permanent collection, which includes rare global treasures, and highlighted important exhibitions such as “Cartier, Islamic Inspiration and Modern Design” and “From Kalila wa Dimna to La Fontaine: Travelling through Fables”.
Looking ahead, the museum plans to expand its educational initiatives by blending technology with traditional learning methods. This includes using augmented reality and virtual reality to create immersive educational experiences for young visitors. Additionally, the museum will soon announce new borrowed collections to be displayed this year.
