Louis Kimber’s Record-Breaking Double Century in County Championship

New Delhi [India], June 26: England and Leicestershire cricketer Louis Kimber achieved an elusive feat on Wednesday by scoring the fastest double-century in the history of the County Championship. Kimber, a wicketkeeper-batter, played a remarkable 243-run knock from 127 balls at a strike rate of 191.34 in Leicestershire’s second inning against Sussex.

Despite Kimber’s incredible performance, Leicestershire suffered an 18-run defeat against Sussex at County Ground in Hove. Kimber’s innings ended in the 81st over when Nathan McAndrew dismissed the 27-year-old. Kimber took just 100 balls to complete his double century.

In addition to setting the record for the fastest double-century in County Championship history, Kimber also achieved the second-fastest double-ton in first-class cricket. During the match, Kimber scored 43 runs in a single over against Sussex and England pacer Ollie Robinson. This over included nine balls due to three oversteps by Robinson, and Kimber capitalized by hitting two sixes and six fours in the first eight balls, followed by a single on the final delivery.

Kimber completed his double century by scoring the remaining 50 runs in just 19 deliveries. Ollie Robinson now holds the record for the most runs conceded in a single over in the Championship, surpassing the previous record of 38 runs set by Lancashire’s Andrew Flintoff in 1998 and matched by Surrey’s Dan Lawrence earlier this month.
