On September 28, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla visited Mizoram to attend the 21st Conference of Commonwealth Parliamentary Association Zone III. During his visit, he participated in the Swachhta Abhiyan in Aizawl, emphasizing the importance of cleanliness on Mahatma Gandhi’s birth anniversary. Birla praised the workers in Mizoram for their dedication to cleanliness, calling it an integral part of their lives.

Birla also visited Bada Bazaar in Aizawl, where he supported the ‘Vocal for Local’ initiative by purchasing a bamboo hat and other regional products. He promoted digital transactions by paying via UPI, highlighting the digital revolution in India. Birla noted that over 80% of local shop payments in Aizawl are now made through UPI, which has boosted business for local shopkeepers.

During his 20-minute walk through Bada Bazaar, Birla engaged with local shopkeepers and craftsmen, explored the fruit and vegetable market, and took photographs with the public. He later interacted with public representatives in the village of Falkun, praising their development work and inviting them to visit Parliament House.
