Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla Meets Leaders from Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, Belarus, Egypt, and Uzbekistan at BRICS Forum

Saint Petersburg, Russia – Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, leading an Indian Parliamentary Delegation to the 10th BRICS Parliamentary Forum, met with leaders from Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, Belarus, Egypt, and Uzbekistan.

Meeting with Tajikistan

Birla held a bilateral meeting with Zokir-Zoda Mahammad-Tohir Zohir, Speaker of Majlisi Namoyandagon of Tajikistan. They discussed enhancing parliamentary cooperation and forming a Parliamentary Friendship Group. Birla highlighted India’s transparent election process and the importance of global collaboration. He also appreciated the popularity of Indian culture and Yoga in Tajikistan and thanked Tajikistan for supporting Indian students.

Meeting with Kazakhstan

Birla met Ashimbayev Maulen Sagathanuly, Chairperson of the Senate of Kazakhstan. He emphasized the need for stronger parliamentary dialogue and regular bilateral visits to enhance cooperation between India and Kazakhstan.

Meeting with Belarus

Birla met Igor Sergeyenko, Chairman of the House of Representatives of Belarus. They discussed the close relations between India and Belarus, especially in the defense sector, and the importance of continuous parliamentary dialogue.

Meeting with Uzbekistan

Birla met Tanzila Kamalovna Narbaeva, Chairperson of the Senate of Uzbekistan. He praised the high participation of women in Uzbekistan’s Parliament and shared India’s efforts in women empowerment through the Naari Shakti Vandan Vidheyak. Birla also highlighted India’s ancient democratic traditions and the recent general elections with 650 million voters participating.

Meeting with Egypt

Birla met with Egyptian parliamentary leaders to discuss enhancing bilateral relations and cooperation. He proposed forming a Parliamentary Friendship Group and suggested installing a statue of Mahatma Gandhi in Egypt’s new parliamentary premises. Both countries agreed to collaborate in multilateral forums like IPU and BRICS, focusing on supporting the Global South and developing nations.
