On August 15, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla hoisted the national flag at his residence in New Delhi to celebrate the 78th Independence Day. He extended greetings to the people and emphasized the importance of remembering those who made supreme sacrifices for the nation.

Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi hoisted the national flag at Red Fort for the 11th consecutive time. After hoisting the Tricolour, PM Modi received a ‘Rashtriya Salute’ from the Punjab Regiment Military band, conducted by Subedar Major Rajinder Singh. The Prime Minister was welcomed by Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, MoS Defence Sanjay Seth, and Defence Secretary Giridhar Aramane.

PM Modi inspected the Guard of Honour, which included personnel from the Army, Air Force, and Delhi Police. In his address, PM Modi paid tribute to the countless ‘Azaadi ke deewane’ who sacrificed for the nation, stating that the country is indebted to them.

Both leaders highlighted the significance of Independence Day as a time to draw inspiration from the sacrifices made for India’s freedom.
