US-India Partnership: A Key to Indo-Pacific Stability

Lisa Curtis, Director of the Indo-Pacific Security Program at the Center for a New American Security, emphasized the importance of the US-India partnership for peace in the Indo-Pacific region. Speaking at the Indian Army’s Chanakya Defence Dialogues in New Delhi, Curtis highlighted initiatives like the Initiative on Critical and Emerging Technologies (iCET) and a USD 4 billion deal for India to purchase 31 MQ-9B Predator drones as evidence of the growing defense ties between the two nations.

Strengthening Ties Through Dialogue

Curtis mentioned the upcoming Indian Ocean Dialogue as a significant step in reinforcing the US-India partnership. She acknowledged past challenges but noted the resilience and commitment of both countries to maintain their relationship.

India-China Border Agreement

Curtis also discussed the recent agreement between India and China to resume regular patrolling along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh. She praised the agreement as a testament to India’s patience and expressed hope for improved relations and cooperation in the region.

The Ministry of External Affairs announced the agreement on October 21, marking a positive development after tensions that began in 2020 due to military actions by China along the LAC.
