Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Army Chief Discuss Security in Jammu
Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha chaired a high-level meeting on Saturday with Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi and various heads of security and law enforcement agencies to discuss the security situation in Jammu division.
The Lieutenant Governor emphasized the need for coordinated counter-terrorism operations and strengthening the security grid to ensure zero cross-border infiltration. He stated, “We must launch meticulous and well-planned counter-terrorism operations with greater synergy between all the agencies to wipe out terrorists and those aiding and abetting them.”
In response to the infiltration of highly trained Pakistani terrorists in the Jammu region, the Indian Army is readjusting its deployments based on intelligence inputs and security requirements. Around 500 Para Special Forces commandos have been deployed to hunt down the 50-55 terrorists from Pakistan who have entered the region. Additionally, one brigade strength of around 3,500-4,000 personnel has been brought in to counter Pakistan’s proxy aggression.
The Army is also working on strategies to search and destroy the terrorists, who are equipped with the latest weaponry and communication equipment. The existing counter-terrorist infrastructure in the area includes two forces of the Rashtriya Rifles, the Romeo and Delta forces, along with other regular infantry divisions.
Recently, four Indian Army soldiers, including Captain Brijesh Thapa, were killed in action during an encounter with terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir’s Doda district on July 16.
