Lieutenant General Muhammad Asim Malik Appointed New ISI Chief in Pakistan
Islamabad [Pakistan], September 23: Lieutenant General Muhammad Asim Malik has been named the new Director General of Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), according to ARY News. He will take over from Lt Gen Nadeem Anjum on September 30.
Currently serving as an Adjutant General at the general headquarters in Rawalpindi, Lt Gen Malik has a notable military background. He has led the Infantry Brigade in Waziristan and the Infantry Division in Balochistan. He has also been honored with a Sword of Honor and has served as a chief instructor at the National Defence University (NDU) and as an instructor at Command and Staff College Quetta.
Lt Gen Malik is a graduate of Fort Leavenworth and the Royal College of Defence Studies.
The appointment comes a month after the arrest of former ISI chief Faiz Hameed. Hameed was taken into military custody following multiple violations of the Army Act, as per the orders of the Supreme Court. The investigation was initiated after a land development company, Top City, filed a petition alleging that Hameed and his brother had acquired several properties and blackmailed the company’s owner.
