Lasith Malinga Praises Neeraj Chopra and Arshad Nadeem for Olympic Success
New Delhi, India – Former Sri Lankan cricketer Lasith Malinga praised javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra for winning a silver medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics. He also congratulated Arshad Nadeem of Pakistan, who won the gold medal in the same event.
Malinga shared his congratulations on social media, stating, “A huge applause to Arshad Nadeem and Neeraj Chopra for bringing gold and silver medals in the men’s Javelin throw at the 2024 Olympics to South Asia. Your incredible achievements make the entire region proud!”
Neeraj Chopra, 26, finished with a best throw of 89.45 meters, falling short of retaining his gold medal. Despite a strong second attempt, he struggled with four consecutive foul throws. Chopra became the second male athlete from post-independence India to win two Olympic medals in an individual event.
Arshad Nadeem won gold with a throw of 92.97 meters, setting a new Olympic record. Grenada’s Anderson Peters secured bronze with a throw of 88.54 meters.
Chopra expressed dissatisfaction with his performance, citing issues with his technique and runway. He also mentioned that the last two to three years were challenging due to injuries. “It was a good throw but I am not that happy with my performance today. My technique and runway was not that good. (I managed) only one throw, the rest I fouled,” said Neeraj.
Neeraj, who is also the current Asian Games champion, emphasized the need to work on staying injury-free and improving his technique.
