Berlin, Germany, July 15: Spanish footballer Lamine Yamal has made history by becoming the youngest male player to participate in a major international tournament final. At just 17 years and 1 day old, Yamal was named in the starting lineup for the EURO 2024 final where Spain faced England at the Olympiastadion Berlin.

Yamal broke the record previously held by legendary footballer Pele, who played in the 1958 World Cup final at the age of 17 years and 249 days. Pele scored two goals in that final, helping Brazil to a 5-2 victory over Sweden.

Spain secured their place in the EURO 2024 final by defeating France 2-1 in the semi-finals. England, on the other hand, reached the final by beating the Netherlands 2-1, thanks to a late goal by Ollie Watkins. This is England’s second consecutive EURO final and their first major tournament final on foreign soil.

England’s Journey to the Final

In their semi-final match against the Netherlands, England initially struggled as Xavi Simons scored an early goal for the Dutch. However, Harry Kane equalized in the 18th minute, and Ollie Watkins scored the winning goal in the dying moments of the match, securing England’s spot in the final.

England’s appearance in the EURO 2024 final brings them one step closer to ending their 58-year wait for a major tournament victory, having last won the World Cup in 1966.
