Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], September 1: Indian Super League (ISL) team Mumbai City FC (MCFC) has announced that star winger Lallianzuala Chhangte will be the captain for the upcoming ISL 2024-25 season.

“We are thrilled to announce Lallianzuala Chhangte as the new captain ahead of the 2024-25 season,” said MCFC in a media release.

Since joining the team in January 2022, Chhangte has been a key player, scoring 29 goals and providing 16 assists in 79 appearances. In the 2023/24 ISL season, he made history by becoming the first Indian player to record over 15 goal contributions in back-to-back seasons, with 10 goals and 6 assists.

Chhangte played a crucial role in helping the team win the ISL League Winners’ Shield in the 2022/23 season and the ISL Cup in the following season. He aims to lead the team to continued success with his example and professionalism.

The team started their training camp in Bangkok, Thailand, on July 28, and will play a friendly match against Vietnamese top-division side LPBank Hoang Anh Gia Lai FC on August 21 as part of their pre-season preparations.

Last season, Mumbai City FC had a league-best goal difference of +23 and the best defensive record, conceding only 19 goals. Goalkeeper Phurba Lachenpa was awarded the Golden Glove for his nine clean sheets. The team also set a record with 16 different players scoring goals throughout the season. Among the standout performers was 22-year-old Vikram Partap Singh, who scored eight goals and was named the Emerging Player of the League.

As they prepare for the new season, MCFC has made strategic signings, including the return of Brandon Fernandes and the addition of 19-year-old Supratim Das from Reliance Foundation Young Champs on a three-year deal.

Mumbai City FC is set to start their ISL campaign this month with high expectations.
