Laldinliana Renthlei Returns to Chennaiyin FC: A New Chapter Begins
Chennaiyin FC has bolstered its defense by re-signing the talented right-back Laldinliana Renthlei. The 26-year-old from Mizoram is returning to the club after playing for Odisha FC last season. Renthlei previously played for Chennaiyin FC from the 2018-19 season and was instrumental in their journey to the 2019-20 Indian Super League (ISL) final.
Renthlei is the 13th signing for Chennaiyin FC this summer, joining defenders Vignesh Dakshinamurthy, Mandar Rao Desai, and PC Laldinpuia. Head coach Owen Coyle expressed his excitement, calling Renthlei a ‘fantastic defender’ and a ‘tremendous addition to the squad.’
Renthlei is expected to bring experience and stability to the team’s back line with his defensive skills and powerful runs. Commenting on his return, Renthlei said, ‘Joining Chennaiyin FC again is very important for me, and I’m excited to give my best for this amazing club. The goal this season is clear – work hard, stay focused, and push ourselves to win the ISL.’
Renthlei first gained attention during the 2017-18 season with Chhinga Veng, leading them to a Mizoram Premier League title. He then moved to Aizawl FC in December 2017. Although primarily a right-back, Renthlei has also played as a central defender and right midfielder. He joined Jamshedpur FC in September 2020, making 57 appearances, and then moved to Odisha FC ahead of the 2023-24 ISL season, making six appearances.
