Tragic Bus Accident in Almora, Uttarakhand
A devastating bus accident occurred in Almora, Uttarakhand, resulting in the loss of nearly two dozen lives. The accident took place when a bus fell into a deep gorge, killing 36 people and injuring 27 others.
Condolences from Lakshya Sen
Indian badminton star Lakshya Sen, who hails from Almora, expressed his sorrow over the incident. He shared his condolences on social media, saying, “Devastated by the news from Almora, my hometown. My heart goes out to all the families impacted by this terrible accident. Deepest condolences to the families who lost their loved ones.”
Government Response
The seriously injured were airlifted to AIIMS Rishikesh and Sushila Tiwari Hospital Haldwani for better treatment. Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami visited the Ram Dutt Joshi Government Combined Hospital in Ramnagar to meet the injured and inquired about their health. He was accompanied by BJP MP Anil Baluni.
Following the incident, CM Dhami ordered a magisterial inquiry and cancelled all his scheduled programmes. Uttarakhand DGP Abhinav Kumar announced the suspension of Assistant Regional Transport Officers of Pauri and Almora. Rescue and relief operations are ongoing.
National Leaders Express Grief
President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi expressed their grief over the tragedy. PM Modi announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakhs for the families of the deceased and Rs 50,000 for the injured from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund.
