Lahore High Court to Hear Case Against District Commissioner for Blocking PTI Rally
The Lahore High Court has scheduled a hearing on September 30 to address a case against the Lahore District Commissioner. The case involves the District Commissioner’s refusal to allow a Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) rally, despite court orders. Justice Farooq Haider will preside over the hearing, which was initiated by a petition from PTI’s Akmal Khan.
The PTI had requested permission to hold a rally at Minar-e-Pakistan on October 5, the birthday of PTI founder Imran Khan. The court ordered the District Commissioner to make a decision on this request by September 30. The court’s official lawyer has been directed to inform the District Commissioner about the court’s order.
In Karachi, the PTI is still awaiting permission to hold a protest rally on Sunday. The Karachi Commissioner will decide after consulting with deputy commissioners and SSPs of the East and South districts. The PTI had planned a protest rally from Karachi Press Club to Mazar-e-Quaid to push for the implementation of the Supreme Court’s order on reserved seats.
PTI’s city president Raja Azhar stated at a press conference that the Supreme Court’s decision confirmed that the reserved seats belonged to the PTI. Meanwhile, in Rawalpindi, the provincial government has banned all public gatherings and stationed paramilitary forces ahead of another major PTI protest.
