Lahore High Court Dismisses Plea to Ban PTI Rally
The Lahore High Court on Friday dismissed a plea by advocate Nadeem Sarwar seeking a ban on Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) rally in Lahore. The court stated that Sarwar was not an ‘affected party.’
Earlier, PTI had moved the Lahore High Court against the arrests of its members ahead of the rally. The plea, filed by Sheikh Imtiaz and Yasir Gillani, claimed that the police were violating their constitutional right to organize a rally by arresting party members in Punjab. They requested the court to stop the arrests and allow the rally to proceed peacefully.
PTI General Secretary for Lahore, Awais Younis, announced that tasks had been given to party officials to ensure the rally’s success. He expressed confidence that Lahore residents would demonstrate their support for the party and its founder.
In a previous rally on September 8, PTI was warned by local administration to adhere to the rally’s NOC guidelines, which required vacating the venue by 7pm. The rally exceeded the permit time, leading to clashes with police as PTI workers threw stones and police responded with tear gas.
