The Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra, inaugurated the 4th LG Horse Polo Cup and Ladakh’s first Polo Stadium in Drass. The event took place at the Horse Polo Ground in Goshan, Dras, marking a significant development for the region.

Inauguration Highlights

The new Polo Stadium, constructed at a cost of Rs 6.84 crore, was unveiled during the event. The inauguration was attended by notable figures including CEC LAHDC Kargil, Dr Mohd Jaffar Akhoon, MP Ladakh Mohammad Hanifa Jan, and other regional officers, emphasizing the importance of this development.

Encouraging Participation

LG Mishra congratulated the people of Dras and extended his best wishes to all participating teams, especially the two women’s teams making their debut in the LG Polo Cup. He announced plans to make next year’s tournament even larger, with hopes of inviting the President or Vice President of India.

Future Plans and Developments

LG Mishra revealed plans to establish a formal calendar for the LG Polo Cup to attract more tourists and boost cultural heritage tourism in Ladakh. He also discussed the progress of the SAI Training Centre at Kurbathang, promising to expedite its construction. Additionally, he pledged financial support for Ladakhi athletes training outside the region.
