Ladakh MP Haji Hanifa Welcomes India-China Army Disengagement

In Leh, Ladakh, MP Haji Hanifa expressed his approval of the recent disengagement between Indian and Chinese armies along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh. However, he voiced concerns about China’s commitment to the agreement. The disengagement process was completed in areas like Depsang and Demchok, with soldiers exchanging sweets to celebrate Diwali.

MP Hanifa stated, “Those of us who live near the border know what war feels like. We desire peace along the border. We welcome the agreement between the two countries, but we want to see it implemented on the ground. Tensions along the border should be reduced through diplomatic means.” He also mentioned his visit to Demchok, where he met locals and emphasized the need for China to adhere to the agreement.

Nyoma Councillor Ishey Spalzang thanked the Central government, expressing satisfaction on behalf of the people in Demchok and along the border. Councillor of Chushul, Konchok Stanzin, highlighted the importance of disengagement, noting its role in expanding grazing areas and promoting peace.

The border standoff between India and China began in 2020 due to Chinese military actions, leading to prolonged tensions. Recently, both countries agreed on patrol arrangements along the LAC.
