KVIC Creates Over 10 Lakh Jobs and Boosts Artisan Wages Under PM Modi’s Leadership
New Delhi, India – Manoj Kumar Goel, Chairman of the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC), announced that KVIC has created over 10 lakh jobs across India in the last financial year. In an interview, Goel highlighted the significant employment provided by KVIC, attributing the success to the support from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the ministry.
Support for Artisans
Goel emphasized KVIC’s commitment to supporting artisans, noting that 80% of the 5 lakh artisans employed are women. He mentioned that their wages have increased by over 225% in the past ten years. KVIC ensures financial support reaches artisans directly through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).
Expanding Village Industries
KVIC is also expanding its efforts in village industries by introducing new verticals. Goel stated that there are about 9.5 lakh units employing over 80 lakh people under their employment generation program. KVIC is focusing on marketing and advancing this sector rapidly.
Impact on Poverty Alleviation
Goel referred to a NITI Aayog report, highlighting that over 20 crore people have risen above poverty in recent years, with KVIC playing a significant role in this achievement. KVIC’s efforts aim to equip young people with the tools they need to contribute to and benefit from the growth of village industries.
Promoting Khadi
In alignment with the vision of ‘Naye Bharat ki Nayi Khadi’ (New Khadi of New India), KVIC has created an e-marketplace to make Khadi products more accessible and appealing to the youth. KVIC has collaborated with Digital India Corporation to leverage technology and present Khadi in innovative ways. They have also opened a new store at IIT to showcase the new Khadi of the new India.
Center of Excellence for Khadi
KVIC has established a Center of Excellence for Khadi in collaboration with the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT). These centers, operational in various locations including Bengaluru and Ahmedabad, aim to enhance Khadi’s appeal to the youth by incorporating new designs and aligning with market preferences.
