Budapest [Hungary], July 21: Kush Maini, a 23-year-old Indian driver, won his first race in the International Automobile Federation’s (FIA) Formula 2 Championship on Sunday. He became only the second Indian to achieve this milestone. Maini inherited the win from Richard Verschoor, who was disqualified due to a technical issue.

Maini, driving for Invicta Racing, added 10 points to his season tally with this victory. He now stands 8th in the Formula 2 Drivers Standings with 66 points, surpassing Mercedes junior driver Kimi Antonelli. Starting from ninth place, Maini faced a tough beginning but managed to regain his position by Lap 17. He defended his position fiercely and challenged Verschoor in the final laps.

In the sprint race, Maini’s fellow Alpine junior, Victor Martins, finished second, while his teammate Gabriel Bortoleto finished 16th due to Verschoor’s disqualification.
