Kumari Selja Discusses Haryana Politics and Her Role in Congress
In a recent interview, Congress MP Kumari Selja addressed claims about former Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Hooda being the most influential figure in the state. She noted that the media often focuses on those who have held the Chief Minister position for a long time, like Hooda, who served for ten years. Selja emphasized that times have changed and that leadership is not solely defined by holding the CM post.
When asked why she hasn’t become Chief Minister despite her long political career, the 61-year-old Selja explained that not everyone in politics achieves that position. She highlighted her own journey, noting that many of her peers have not reached her level of success, with some leaving politics or switching parties. Selja stated, “It’s not necessary that everyone become the CM. Today you know me, you’re taking my name. How many others who joined politics with me came this long?”
Regarding the upcoming Haryana elections, Selja expressed confidence in her standing within the Congress party. She mentioned that the decision for the Chief Minister candidate, should Congress win, will be made by the Party High Command. However, she believes her seniority and contributions make her a strong contender. “The high command would look at the seniority, work done, and everything else. These political decisions would be taken by high command,” she said.
Haryana is set to hold elections on October 5 to elect its 90-member state legislative assembly, with results expected on October 8. In the previous 2019 elections, the BJP won 40 seats, while Congress secured 30 seats.
