Kumari Puja Celebrated at Ramakrishna Math in Dhaka

In Dhaka, Bangladesh, nearly 20,000 Hindu devotees gathered at the Ramakrishna Math and Mission to celebrate Kumari Puja. This traditional Hindu festival involves the worship of young girls as a symbol of purity and good qualities, seeking blessings from Goddess Durga. Swami Purnatmananda, the head of the Ramakrishna Math, emphasized the importance of this age-old tradition.

Security Concerns Addressed

Initially, there were concerns about holding the event due to security issues, as the police were not active. However, the Deputy Chief of the Army Staff assured the organizers of full support, promising necessary army personnel to ensure safety. Swami Purnatmananda expressed satisfaction with the security arrangements.

Challenges Faced by Minority Communities

The Bangladesh Combined Minority Alliance highlighted ongoing atrocities against minority communities, including Hindus, across Bangladesh. Reports of attacks, vandalism, and other crimes have been noted since August 5. Swami Purnatmananda acknowledged receiving such news but was uncertain of its accuracy.

Recent Incidents

There were reports of an Islamic song being sung at a puja stage in Chittagong and the theft of a crown from the Jeshoreshwari temple in Satkhira, which was a gift from Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Swami Purnatmananda was unaware of these incidents but acknowledged their possibility.

Political Changes

Following protests and clashes, former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was ousted, and an interim government led by Muhammad Yunus was established. Despite these changes, Swami Purnatmananda remains confident in the security measures at Ramakrishna Math.
