The Kullu Dussehra, a major cultural event in India, will take place from October 13 to 19 this year. The Himachal Pradesh government is working to make the festival more spectacular while keeping its traditional and religious significance intact.

New Additions to the Festival

This year, the festival will feature several new elements, including a cultural parade, a carnival, and a fusion cultural program that blends traditional music with international tunes. These additions aim to enhance the festival’s appeal and attract more visitors.

Historic Significance

Held annually at the historic Dhalpur ground since the 17th century, the International Kullu Dussehra Festival sees the participation of hundreds of local deities and their followers. They pay their respects to the chief deity, Shri RaghunathJi Maharaj, during a grand Rath Yatra procession.

Event Highlights

Chief Parliamentary Secretary Sunder Singh Thakur announced that the cultural parade will be held on October 14. The festival will also feature traditional dances, mesmerizing music, and the Lalhri dance on October 18. The Kullu Carnival on October 19 will mark the festival’s finale, showcasing traditional attire and rituals.

Artistry and Trade

The festival also highlights local artisans’ work, including textiles, jewelry, wood, and metalwork. It serves as a local trade center, continuing the tradition of trading products from Lahaul and Ladakh.

Global Participation

Last year, 15 international cultural troupes participated through the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR). Thakur mentioned that they are aiming for even more international participation this year.
