Kuki Militants Attack in Bishnupur, Manipur
78-Year-Old Man Killed, Six Injured
In Bishnupur, Manipur, Kuki militants launched long-range rockets among civilians, resulting in the death of a 78-year-old man named RK Rabei and injuring six others. The Manipur Police confirmed the incident and stated that additional security forces have been deployed to conduct combing operations in the nearby hill ranges.
The police reported that three bunkers were destroyed in the attack, with two in Mualsang village and one in Laika Mualsau village of Churachandpur. The Superintendent of Police (SP) and his team were also fired upon by suspected Kuki militants but managed to repel the attack. A military chopper has been deployed for aerial patrolling.
Senior officers, including the Inspector General of Police and Deputy Inspector General of Police, have inspected the areas to take immediate countermeasures. A Mobile Forensic Unit was also present to collect evidence. High-level security meetings have been conducted to monitor the situation closely.
Khuraijam Athouba, spokesperson of the Coordination Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI), mentioned an increase in Kuki aggression, including drone bombings and missile attacks. He stated that the situation is out of control and called for an indefinite public emergency in Manipur.
Earlier, the Indian Army and Manipur Police recovered a significant cache of arms and ammunition in a joint operation in the sensitive areas of Kangpokpi and Imphal East districts. The recovered items included a heavy calibre launcher, rifles, pistols, grenades, and other war-like stores.
