KP Sharma Oli to Become Prime Minister of Nepal

Kathmandu, Nepal – KP Sharma Oli, leader of the Communist Party of Nepal-Unified Marxist Leninist (CPN-UML), has staked his claim to become the Prime Minister of Nepal. This comes after Pushpa Kamal Dahal lost a vote of confidence in Parliament.

President Ram Chandra Paudel called on political parties to form a new government by Sunday evening. Oli presented his claim with the support of 165 lawmakers, including 77 from his party and 88 from the Nepali Congress.

Mahesh Bartaula, the Chief Whip of UML, confirmed that Oli would stake his claim for the Prime Minister position. Dahal lost his position after failing to secure the required 138 votes during a floor test in the House of Representatives.

With the President’s call, the Nepali Congress and the UML are set to claim the prime ministerial post for Oli as per their agreement on July 1.
