KP Fabian Discusses India-Canada Diplomatic Tensions and Impact on Indian Diaspora

Former Indian diplomat KP Fabian has shared his views on India’s decision to recall its High Commissioner and other diplomats after Canada’s investigation into the killing of Hardeep Singh Nijjar. Canada labeled Indian diplomats as “persons of interest,” prompting India’s response. Fabian explained that the Royal Canadian Mounted Police wanted to interrogate the High Commissioner, which India found unacceptable.

Fabian noted the complexity of the situation, as only the High Commissioner has been recalled so far. He expressed concern about potential escalation in India-Canada relations, especially under Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. Fabian predicted a possible change in Canadian leadership after the 2025 elections, suggesting that relations might improve with a new government.

He also highlighted the impact on the Indian diaspora in Canada, particularly younger members who recently moved there. Fabian warned of potential violence from the Khalistani group, a small but active minority within the Sikh community in Canada, which could target Hindu temples.
