Abhijit Mondal, the officer-in-charge of Tala police station, was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and brought to BR Singh Hospital in Kolkata for a medical test. Along with him, Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, was also arrested. Both arrests are connected to the rape and murder of a trainee doctor in Kolkata.

Junior doctors protesting at Swasthya Bhavan celebrated the arrests. One junior doctor expressed happiness over the CBI’s actions and called for further arrests of those involved in tampering with evidence.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee addressed the situation, explaining that the request for live streaming her meeting with the protesting doctors could not be met due to ongoing legal proceedings in the Supreme Court. She assured the doctors that a recording of the meeting would be provided and requested their cooperation.

The tragic incident occurred on August 9, when a second-year postgraduate medical student was raped and murdered inside the seminar hall of RG Kar Medical College.
