The Kolkata Police clarified that the bike used by Sanjay Roy, the main accused in the RG Kar Medical College rape and murder case, was registered under the Commissioner of Police, as all government vehicles are. Sanjay Roy, a civic volunteer, was assigned the vehicle.

Protests erupted in Kolkata following the incident, leading to clashes with police. Security personnel used tear gas, water cannons, and lathi charges to disperse protestors during the Nabanna Abhijan Rally. Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra criticized the protestors, calling them goons.

The Central Forensic Science Laboratory conducted polygraph tests on Roy and others involved in the case. The tests were held in jail and at the CBI office in Kolkata. The Kolkata police handed over all documents related to alleged financial irregularities at RG Kar Medical College to the CBI.

The incident sparked nationwide outrage, with several protests demanding justice for the victim, a postgraduate trainee doctor found dead on August 9.
