Kiren Rijiju Highlights Buddha’s Teachings at Maharashtra Conclave
Mumbai, Maharashtra – On September 14, the Minister of Minority Affairs, Kiren Rijiju, emphasized the importance of spreading Buddha’s ‘Madhyama Marg’ (Middle Path) for global leadership, starting from Maharashtra. He highlighted how Babasaheb Ambedkar’s embrace of Buddha Dhamma marked a new awakening in India.
Speaking as the Chief Guest at a one-day conclave organized by the Ministry of Minority Affairs and the International Buddhist Confederation (IBC), Rijiju noted the historical significance of Buddhism in India. He mentioned that after leaders like Ashoka and Kanishka, Buddhism saw a resurgence with Ambedkar’s decision to adopt the faith.
Special guests at the event included Iqbal Singh Lalpura, Chairman of the National Commission for Minorities, and Milind Kamble, Chairman of the Dalit Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (DICCI). Dr. Bhadant Rahul Bodhi also shared the stage as an eminent dignitary.
Rijiju highlighted the Government of India’s efforts under Prime Minister Modi to celebrate Buddha Jayanti on a grand scale since 2014. He emphasized that Modi’s vision for the 21st century as the ‘Asian Century’ is guided by Buddha’s principles of compassion, loving-kindness, and co-existence.
Secretary General of IBC, Shartse Khensur Rinpoche Jangchup Choeden, stressed that Buddha’s message can inspire positive change in a world marked by conflict. He expressed hope that the conference would help leaders worldwide use Buddha’s teachings to foster peace and prosperity.
Iqbal Singh Lalpura reminded the audience of Buddha Dhamma’s historical spread beyond India and highlighted Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s contributions to social reform. Milind Kamble emphasized the importance of Buddha’s Middle Path for progress and peace.
A short film was shown depicting the Government of India’s efforts to promote Buddha Dhamma both nationally and internationally.
