New Delhi, India – On Thursday, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju strongly defended the Union Budget 2024-25 against opposition criticism. Rijiju accused the opposition of engaging in politics rather than providing constructive feedback on the budget.

Rijiju emphasized the ambitious goals of the budget, calling it a “historical budget.” He condemned the opposition’s remarks, stating, “The opposition did not say anything about the budget, rather they have just done politics. They have insulted the mandate of the people, which is not right for democracy.”

He urged for a focus on the budget during the parliamentary session, highlighting its aims to make India the third largest economy with allocations for infrastructure, women, employment, and farmers. Rijiju warned that the public would punish the opposition if they failed to understand the budget’s significance.

On Wednesday, opposition INDIA bloc MPs protested in the Parliament complex against the Union Budget, presented by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. They raised slogans and held placards, claiming the budget is “discriminatory.”

Leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, criticized the budget on social media, calling it a “Kursi Bachao Budget” and accusing the Finance Minister of making hollow promises. Mallikarjun Kharge also criticized the budget, calling it a “copycat budget” that fails to progress the country.
