New Delhi, July 2: Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju criticized the Congress party for causing a disturbance during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s speech in the Lok Sabha. Rijiju stated that this behavior goes against the traditions of Indian Parliamentary democracy.

Rijiju said, “The opposition’s reaction during the Prime Minister’s speech is condemnable. Every party was given an extension, and the Congress was allotted 3 hours 48 minutes to speak. Yesterday, Congress did not give time to its Manipur MP to speak. When there is a discussion on a bill or motion in the Lok Sabha, the party decides who will speak. When they should have given their MP a chance to speak, they did not let him speak, and when PM Narendra Modi got up to speak, they alleged that their Manipur MP was not allowed to speak.”

Rijiju also noted that in the past 10 years, it has been observed that Congress members often create a ruckus whenever the Prime Minister speaks. He urged Congress to apologize to the people of Manipur for politicizing a sensitive issue.

Meanwhile, the First Session of the 18th Lok Sabha, which started on June 24, achieved a productivity rate of 103% in seven sittings. The Lok Sabha was adjourned sine die on Tuesday after adopting the motion of thanks on the President’s address, following PM Modi’s reply to the debate.

During PM Modi’s speech, opposition members continuously raised slogans about the situation in Manipur. After PM Modi’s reply, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh moved a motion condemning the opposition’s behavior, stating that it violated parliamentary traditions. Speaker Om Birla also emphasized that the House operates according to rules and will continue to do so.

This session was the first of the 18th Lok Sabha after the recent elections. The session began with the oath-taking of new members. The BJP-led NDA formed its third consecutive government, winning 293 seats, while the opposition INDIA bloc won 243 seats.
