King Charles III Appoints Keir Starmer as New UK Prime Minister After Historic Win

On July 5, the British Royal Family congratulated Keir Starmer for his landslide electoral victory in the House of Commons. Starmer met King Charles III and was formally appointed as the UK Prime Minister after the former PM Rishi Sunak resigned.

The Royal Family shared a message on X, stating, ‘The King received in Audience The Rt Hon Sir Keir Starmer MP today and requested him to form a new Administration. Sir Keir accepted His Majesty’s offer and was appointed Prime Minister and First Lord of the Treasury.’

Starmer received congratulatory messages from leaders worldwide for his historic win. The Labour Party won 403 seats, while the Conservative Party, led by Sunak, won just 109 in the 650-member House of Commons.

Sunak, who took 47.5% of the vote in his constituency, apologized for the loss and took responsibility. He emphasized a peaceful transition of power, saying, ‘Today power will change hands in an orderly and peaceful manner, with goodwill on all sides.’

Celebrating the win, Starmer pledged ‘national renewal’ after 14 years of Conservative rule. Sunak had called for a snap vote in May, surprising many in his party.
