King Abdullah II of Jordan Urges Peace to Prevent Regional War
Amman [Jordan], August 11 – King Abdullah II of Jordan has called for the utmost efforts to de-escalate the situation in the region and achieve comprehensive calm to prevent a full-scale regional war. He made these remarks during a meeting with a delegation of US congressional aides in Amman, discussing current regional developments and ways to strengthen the strategic partnership between Jordan and the United States.
The King warned that the region remains vulnerable to an expansion of conflict that threatens its stability as long as the war on Gaza continues. He emphasized the need for international efforts to stop the war by reaching an immediate and permanent ceasefire. His Majesty reiterated that Jordan will not be a battleground for any party and will not tolerate any threats to the lives of its people.
The King also highlighted the dangers of extremist settler attacks against Palestinians in the West Bank and violations of Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem. He reaffirmed the importance of creating a political horizon to achieve just and comprehensive peace based on the two-state solution, which he believes is the only way to ensure the security of Palestinians, Israelis, and the entire region.
Additionally, the King called for maintaining support for UNRWA to enable it to continue its UN mandate to provide humanitarian aid to millions of Palestinians in Gaza and the region.
