Kidambi Srikanth Shines in Macau Open Return, Advances to Round 2
Indian badminton star Kidambi Srikanth made a successful return to competitive play at the Macau Open, advancing to the second round after defeating Daniil Dubovenko 21-14, 21-15. Srikanth, 31, had been sidelined since May due to an injury sustained during the Singapore Open. Now seeded sixth in the BWF Super 300 event, he aims to regain his form.
In the next round, Srikanth will face fellow Indian Ayush Shetty, who defeated Alap Mishra 21-13, 21-5. In mixed doubles, the pair of B Sumeeth Reddy and N Sikki Reddy advanced to the round of 16 by beating Malaysians Bing Kun Loo and Lo Ee Ho 24-22, 10-21, 21-13.
On Tuesday, Commonwealth Games bronze medalists Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand reached the pre-quarterfinals in women’s doubles, overcoming Japanese pair Akari Sato and Maya Taguchi 15-21, 21-16, 21-14.
Notably, prominent Indian stars from the Paris Olympics 2024, including two-time Olympic medallist PV Sindhu and Lakshya Sen, are not participating in the Macau Open, which will conclude on Sunday.
