Khaled Mahmud Resigns from Bangladesh Cricket Board After 11 Years
Dhaka, Bangladesh – Khaled Mahmud, a former captain of the Bangladesh cricket team, has stepped down from his role as a Director of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). The board’s CEO, Nizamuddin Chowdhury, confirmed the news.
Mahmud’s resignation comes after 11 years of service on the board. He is the latest in a series of departures, following Jalal Yunus and Naimur Rahman, who resigned in recent weeks, and Ahmed Sajjadul Alam, who was removed from his post.
Mahmud informed the board of his decision via email. At the time of his resignation, he was also serving as the BCB’s game development chairman and cricket operations vice-chairman. Over the past 18 years, Mahmud has held various roles within the BCB.
After retiring from playing cricket in 2006, Mahmud was appointed as Bangladesh’s team manager. Three years later, he became the assistant coach under head coach Jamie Siddons. In 2013, he was appointed as a board director but continued to coach teams in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) and Dhaka Premier League (DPL).
Mahmud returned as the Bangladesh team manager in 2015 and was appointed as a selector in 2016. He also served as the technical director, essentially acting as head coach, in early 2018. Despite facing questions about potential conflicts of interest, Mahmud continued to play multiple roles in Bangladesh cricket.
In 2019, Mahmud was the interim coach for the ODI series against Sri Lanka and continued as team director through the 2023 World Cup campaign in India. He is credited with significant achievements, including the U19 team’s World Cup win in 2020 and a BPL title with Dhaka Dynamites in 2016.
Mahmud played 12 Tests and 77 ODIs for Bangladesh and was the Player of the Match in the team’s famous win over Pakistan in the 1999 Cricket World Cup. He also captained the team in nine Tests and 15 ODIs, although he did not secure any wins as captain.
