Kerala’s Nivin Dalwin Among Victims of Delhi Flooding

The mortal remains of Nivin Dalwin, a student from Kerala, were handed over to his family on Monday. Nivin was one of three students who drowned in a flooded basement at Rau’s Study Circle in Delhi’s Old Rajinder Nagar.

Victims and Families

Nivin Dalwin hailed from Ernakulam, Kerala. The other victims were Shreya Yadav from Uttar Pradesh and Tanya Soni from Telangana. Their bodies were kept at Ram Manohar Lohia (RML) Hospital in Delhi.

Hospital Report

Dr. Ajay Shukla, Medical Superintendent of RML Hospital, stated, “Out of the total 17 students brought here, three were brought dead. The remaining 14 students were discharged yesterday.”

Disciplinary Actions

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has initiated disciplinary proceedings against officials in the Karol Bagh Zone. Assistant Engineer Vishram Meena has been suspended, and the contract of Vinay Mittal, JE(M), has been terminated.

Arrests and Legal Actions

Delhi police have arrested seven individuals, including the driver of an SUV and the owners of the basement. The coaching center’s owner and coordinator have also been arrested and charged with culpable homicide.

Protests and Sealing of Basements

The MCD sealed the basements of 13 coaching centers in Karol Bagh for violating building by-laws. Earth movers were used to remove encroachments over drains following student protests.
