Kerala Minister K Krishnankutty Orders Quick Power Restoration in Wayanad After Landslides

Thiruvananthapuram (Kerala), July 30: Kerala Electricity Minister K Krishnankutty has directed that power connections in Wayanad’s Chooralmala and Mundakkai landslide-affected areas be restored as soon as possible. The Minister’s office announced that efforts are focused on all areas except for seven transformers in the disaster-affected region, which serve about 1,400 consumers. Power restoration to other areas is expected by this evening, with further assessments in consultation with disaster management authorities.

The Minister will visit the affected areas soon to directly evaluate the restoration efforts. Approximately 3 kilometers of high-tension lines and 8 kilometers of low-tension lines within the Meppadi electrical section have been completely destroyed following the landslides. Additionally, two transformers have gone missing, while three others have been damaged. Serious damage has also been reported in the lines within two transformer zones, disrupting power services to around 350 homes.

Over 80 bodies were recovered, and around 116 people were injured in the landslides that hit the Meppadi area of Wayanad in Kerala in the early hours of Tuesday.
