Immediate Assistance for Affected Families

The Kerala state government is providing immediate help to those affected by the landslides in Mundakkai and Chooralmala areas of Wayanad district. Each family staying in relief camps will receive Rs. 10,000, and adults who lost their livelihood will get a daily allowance of Rs. 300 for up to two individuals per family. For families with bedridden or long-term hospitalized patients, the allowance will be extended to three individuals. This assistance will be provided for 30 days.

Search and Rescue Operations

Search and rescue operations are ongoing in the areas affected by the landslides that occurred on July 30, which claimed 225 lives and displaced thousands. Congress MLA and KPCC General Secretary T Siddique emphasized the importance of involving local residents in the rescue efforts.

Prime Minister’s Visit and Future Plans

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit the landslide-affected sites in Wayanad on August 10. Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has requested the central government to declare the event a national disaster and a severe calamity.
