Kerala Governor Arif Mohammed Khan Supports Investigation into Malayalam Film Industry Abuse
New Delhi, India – Kerala Governor Arif Mohammed Khan expressed his trust in Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan’s commitment to initiate legal action if victims of sexual abuse in the Malayalam film industry come forward. This statement was in response to the Hema Committee report, which revealed widespread sexual abuse in the industry.
The Kerala government has decided to form a special investigation team, led by senior police officer IGP G Sparjan Kumar, to investigate these allegations. The team will include senior women police officers and will operate under the supervision of Crime Branch ADGP H Venkatesh.
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan stated that appropriate action would be taken against anyone, regardless of their rank, if they are found guilty. The Justice Hema Committee report, based on testimonies from 51 industry professionals, highlighted the exploitation of women, including casting couches and poor working conditions.
Leader of Opposition VD Satheesan has demanded an investigation into the shocking allegations detailed in the report, criticizing the government for not taking immediate action despite being aware of the offences.
