Kerala Governor Arif Mohammad Khan’s New Rules for Officer Visits to Raj Bhavan

In Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, the Raj Bhavan clarified that government officers are welcome at the Governor’s residence for official matters only with authorization from the Chief Minister. This follows Governor Arif Mohammad Khan’s statement about officers visiting without prior approval. The Governor emphasized that officers can visit for personal reasons without restrictions.

The clarification aims to address misunderstandings about officer visits. Governor Khan recently criticized Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan’s comments on gold smuggling, questioning if it was his duty to report national security threats to the President. He expressed frustration over being uninformed about key issues, including potential anti-national activities linked to gold smuggling.

On Monday, the Governor summoned the Chief Secretary and DGP for explanations regarding the Chief Minister’s statements on gold smuggling in Malappuram and allegations of funds being used for anti-State activities. In response, the Chief Minister sent a letter to the Raj Bhavan, stating that summoning officials without consulting the elected government exceeds the Governor’s constitutional authority.
