Kerala Governor Arif Mohammad Khan Seeks Report on Phone Tapping Allegations
Kerala Governor Arif Mohammad Khan has asked Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan for a report on allegations by independent legislator PV Anvar that phone calls of ministers and journalists were tapped. In a letter to the Chief Minister, Governor Khan described the allegations as very serious and a violation of Supreme Court directions.
MLA Anvar accused Kerala ADGP (law and order) MR Ajith Kumar of tapping phone calls of ministers and journalists. Governor Khan emphasized that recording telephone conversations without legal authorization is a breach of basic fundamental rights of Indian citizens.
Chief Minister Vijayan assured a thorough investigation into all aspects related to the matter. Congress leader Ramesh Chennithala criticized the Chief Minister’s office, calling it a haven for anti-social elements. Anvar also accused MR Ajith Kumar and IPS officer Sujith Das S of misappropriation of seized gold, prompting a vigilance inquiry by the Kerala government.
