Tragic Incident Near Shoranur Railway Station

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has reached out to Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav regarding safety issues. He expressed deep sorrow over a tragic accident on a river bridge near Shoranur Railway Station, where four workers, including two women from Tamil Nadu, lost their lives. These workers were involved in track cleaning when they were hit by the Kerala Express on November 2, 2024.

Lack of Safety Training

Vijayan highlighted that the workers were not trained or made aware of the dangers of working near railway tracks. This incident follows another tragedy where a temporary sanitation worker drowned while cleaning a canal under a railway track in Thiruvananthapuram.

Call for Action

The Chief Minister emphasized the need for strict adherence to safety measures by contractors. He urged the Railway Minister to issue instructions ensuring the safety of contract staff and to ensure compensation for the families of the deceased workers.
