Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan Responds to MLA PV Anwar’s Allegations Against Police
Thiruvananthapuram (Kerala) [India], September 21: Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has stated that his government will take necessary action regarding MLA PV Anwar’s allegations against Kerala police officers. He emphasized that Anwar should have addressed these issues within the party before going public.
CM Vijayan explained that a complaint from MLA PV Anwar led to the formation of an elite investigation team under the state police chief. He noted that typically, such matters should be brought to the party’s attention first.
Currently, an investigation is underway, and SP Sujith Das has been suspended due to inappropriate conduct. The allegations involve police misconduct related to gold smuggling.
CM Vijayan stressed the importance of a fearless and just police force, highlighting the significant seizures of smuggled gold and hawala money in recent years. In 2022, 79.9 kg of gold was intercepted, and this year, 18.1 kg has been seized so far. Since 2020, Rs 122.5 crore in hawala money has been confiscated.
He assured that the government is committed to addressing gold smuggling and hawala transactions, with measures being strengthened to combat these issues.
Earlier, MLA Anwar filed a formal complaint with DGP Shaik Darvesh Saheb, leading to an internal investigation. The allegations include misappropriation of valuable trees and accepting bribes related to a case involving Sajan Scaria.
