Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan Faces Controversy

False Narratives and Media Criticism

In Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, a controversy has arisen involving Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan’s misattributed remarks on gold smuggling. M V Govindan, the state secretary of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), accused the media of spreading false narratives. He stated that despite the Chief Minister’s clarification, some media outlets continue to cast doubt and criticize even his demeanor.

Gold Smuggling and Law and Order

The issue began when a media report wrongly attributed comments to the Chief Minister about gold smuggling in Malappuram. The Chief Minister’s office clarified the mistake, but the controversy persisted. Govindan highlighted that gold smuggling has become a law and order issue, blaming the central government’s Customs department for facilitating smuggling at Karipur airport. He noted that the police have intervened in related incidents, resulting in five deaths.

Political Campaigns and Party Resolutions

Govindan also mentioned an intensified campaign against the Kerala government and the Communist Party, aimed at weakening their influence. In response, the party plans to launch a strong counter-campaign. A resolution has been passed to address the political situation and the attacks on leadership, which are seen as attempts to undermine Chief Minister Vijayan’s public support.
