KC Venugopal Defends Congress Against PM Modi’s Criticisms

In New Delhi, senior Congress leader KC Venugopal responded to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s criticisms of Congress-led governments. Venugopal defended Congress’s welfare initiatives and questioned the Modi government’s unfulfilled promises. He called Modi “the uncrowned champion of puffery, misdirection, and unfulfilled promises,” and found it ironic for Modi to question Congress’s commitment to welfare.

Venugopal highlighted Congress’s welfare measures, especially in Karnataka, contrasting them with BJP’s “election gimmicks.” He mentioned schemes in Karnataka and Telangana benefiting women, farmers, and the underprivileged. “Our government in Karnataka delivers Rs. 2,000 to 1.2 crore women and ensures food security through the Anna Bhagya Scheme,” Venugopal stated. He praised Karnataka’s Shakti scheme for empowering women with free bus travel.

Venugopal questioned Modi’s delivery on key projects like “Ache Din,” “Amrit Kaal,” housing for all by 2022, and 100 smart cities. He criticized BJP’s governance as “insincere, vengeful, and non-performing,” while affirming Congress’s commitment to effective governance and welfare-focused policies.

Venugopal’s response followed Modi’s tweets accusing Congress of making empty promises. Modi claimed Congress’s promises were misleading and cited issues in Congress-ruled states like Karnataka, Himachal Pradesh, and Telangana. He urged the public to be wary of Congress’s “fake promises” and pointed to Haryana’s election results as evidence of Congress’s rejection.
