Karnataka’s Energy Minister KJ George Explains Aadhaar Linkage for Better Electricity Management

On Thursday, Karnataka’s Energy Minister KJ George addressed concerns about linking Aadhaar numbers to IP set RR numbers. He explained that this initiative is for record-keeping and to ensure efficient electricity distribution. Speaking at the Bellary district panchayat hall, George highlighted the need to accurately assess the number of IP sets and prevent power disruptions caused by illegal pump sets.

George reiterated the state’s commitment to providing uninterrupted power, even during droughts. The plan includes ensuring seven hours of electricity daily without load shedding, achieved through demand-based electricity allocation and regular district-level meetings every three months.

Regarding the regularization of illegal IP sets and solar pump sets under the KB Scheme, George mentioned that farmers beyond 500 meters from power transformers will receive support under the Kusum B scheme. This includes a 30 percent subsidy from the Central Government and a 50 percent subsidy from the state, with farmers covering the remaining 20 percent.

To improve service delivery and prevent transfer issues, George announced the recruitment of 2,000 linemen across Karnataka within 15 days. This aims to ensure adequate manpower in each district, especially in coastal and hilly areas.

George also informed that ESCOM Managing Directors have been instructed to hold regular meetings with district representatives and ESCOM Chief Engineers to promptly resolve power supply challenges.
