Karnataka’s Deputy Minister DK Shivkumar Responds to BJP’s Planned Padayatra Against CM Siddaramaiah
The BJP government is planning a 10-day padayatra starting on July 31 to protest against alleged scams by the Siddaramaiah government. Karnataka’s Deputy Minister DK Shivkumar addressed this in a press conference at the KPCC office, accusing the BJP of trying to tarnish Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s image.
Shivkumar stated, “It was the Congress that introduced padayatras in India. Now, the BJP is planning a padayatra from Bengaluru to Mysuru against the alleged Muda scam to bring disrespect to CM Siddaramaiah and destabilize the Congress government in the state.”
He further accused the BJP of being “the master of scams” and trying to destabilize the Congress government in Karnataka, the largest state under Congress rule. Shivkumar mentioned that the state government was investigating the Valmiki Corporation case, but the BJP had sent its own agencies to create trouble.
Shivkumar also claimed that the BJP and JDS were losing ground in the state and had joined hands for the padayatra. He promised to expose the BJP by releasing a list of sites illegally allotted during their tenure.
He explained that the Mysore Urban Development Authority (MUDA) had taken over land belonging to the Chief Minister without notification and allotted sites as compensation, which was legal. He assured that the CM’s family had accepted the allotted sites without any specific requests.
Shivkumar challenged the BJP to answer questions about scams during their tenure and expressed readiness for a public debate with BJP leaders like Kumaraswamy, Yediyurappa, Jagadish Shettar, Basavaraj Bommai, and R Ashok.
