Karnataka Renames Ramanagara District to Bengaluru South

Minister HK Patil and BJP MP Pralhad Joshi Speak Out

On Friday, Karnataka’s State Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister HK Patil announced the decision to rename Ramanagara district to Bengaluru South. He stated that the change was driven by the aspirations and demands of the people and their representatives, aiming to benefit from the ‘Brand Bengaluru’ name.

However, BJP MP Pralhad Joshi criticized the decision, arguing that it reflects the Congress party’s opposition to ‘Ram’ and is motivated by political and real estate interests. He urged the government to withdraw the proposal, warning of strong opposition from the BJP.

The Karnataka cabinet approved the renaming, with Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar making the official announcement.
