Karnataka Renames Ramanagara District to Bengaluru South
The Karnataka cabinet has decided to rename Ramanagara district to Bengaluru South. This announcement was made by Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar. The decision aims to foster development in areas such as Channapatna, Magadi, and Kanakapura.
Proposal and Approval
Earlier this month, a delegation of district leaders proposed the renaming to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. The delegation included district in-charge ministers, MLAs, and other leaders. They met the Chief Minister at Vidhana Soudha to present their proposal.
Reasons for Renaming
Shivakumar explained that the renaming would help in the development of Ramanagara, Channapatna, and Magadi up to Mysore. It is expected to attract industries and increase property values. Bengaluru’s global recognition was also a factor in the decision.
