Karnataka Police Ready to Implement New Criminal Laws

Alok Kumar Announces Preparedness

Karnataka Additional Director General of Police (Traffic and Road Safety) Alok Kumar stated that the state is ready to implement three new criminal laws: Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA). These laws came into effect on July 1.

Alok Kumar mentioned, “All our men and officers, including armed reserve and special units, have been trained in new criminal laws.” He also highlighted that the technological infrastructure, such as integration with the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network & Systems (CCTNS) and the Interoperable Criminal Justice System (ICJS), has been completed.

He added, “We are in a ready position. As per the new criminal laws, forensic tools should be used in cases where punishment provision is more than seven years.”

Drive Against Dazzling LED Headlights

The police have also launched a drive against dazzling or glaring LED headlights in vehicles starting July 1. Alok Kumar said, “As per central motor vehicle rules, vehicles that use LED lights should not be glaring or dazzling. If they are using LED headlights that are dazzling or glaring, it is inconvenient for other commuters. We are taking action under 177 of the Indian Motor Vehicle Act.” In the last three days, more than 3700 cases have been booked.

Increase in Road Accidents

Alok Kumar attributed the increase in road accidents and fatalities to the growing number of vehicles and population. He said, “The number of vehicles and population are increasing every day. So naturally everywhere in the country, the number of accidents like road accidents and deaths is increasing.”
